If you are looking for a cute, tasty and festive holiday cookie, may I suggest making Spritz cookies. Spritz cookies are a butter cookie that can be flavored with either Almond or Vanilla extract. They are light, delicate cookies, that are formed by using a cookie press.
If you have little ones, this is a great cookie to let them help you with. Kids love using the cookie press and decorating with sprinkles. The dough consists of simple ingredients most people already have on hand, and is simple to make.
So crank up the Christmas tunes and break out your cookie press, it’s time to make Spritz!
Start by creaming vanilla and butter together, you can use a stand mixer or a hand mixer. Then gradually add the sugar to butter and beating until butter and sugar are pale and fluffy.
Add one egg yolk to the butter and sugar.
In a separate bowl whisk together flour, baking powder and salt. Then add the flour mixture a little at a time to the butter and sugar until all the flour is mixed in.
Once the dough was finished, it’s placed inside a cookie press. You can buy a cookie press at craft stores, target or kitchen supply stores. The cost range from $15 to $50 depending on the brand and model you buy.
You select the disk with the shape of the cookie you want put it in the gun, then fill the gun with cookie dough.
Holding the straight down on the cookie sheet squeeze the trigger to release the dough from the gun
The cookies can go into the oven just like this, or you can add some colorful sprinkles to the cookies for festive touch.
The cookies go in the oven for twelve minutes, I suggest you check them around the 8 minute mark to make sure you don’t over bake them. Let the cookies cool on a rack for about 10 minutes then they are ready to eat!
Spritz cookies definitely win the cute award for Christmas cookies. I don’t know, but something about a plate of Spritz cookies always makes me smile!
