Today is National Hamburger Day! I love hamburgers! Hamburgers have been one of my favorite foods for as long as I could remember. And it’s one the few foods Mexican food being the other that I could and would eat at anytime. So in honor of this day and one of my favorite foods I thought I would bring you a list of my favorite burgers. I can’t rank them because I love them all for different reasons it would be like asking a mother to pick her favorite child. I will however categorize them.
For an upscale/Fancy burger my go to is Umami Burger. Their truffle burger is out of this world and even the original Umami burger with shiitake mushrooms and crispy parmesan cheese chip is so good. I am talking eyes rolling in the back of your mouth don’t talk to me I am eating good!!! The burger patties are all hand ground on site and it’s seriously the most moist, tender and delicious burger I have ever had the pleasure of eating. If you are in the L.A., orange county area you must go to Umami Burger I promise you wont be disappointed.
For regional favorite burger I had to with my hometown favorite Green Chile Cheese Burger found throughout the state of New Mexico. If I have to narrow it down I would say Sadie’s restaurant serves a really good one. In New Mexico everything is better with Chile on it; and the addition of Hatch Green Chile to a hamburger takes it from ordinary to extraordinary. While I love living in California, there are days when I long to be able to go out for a good green chile cheese burger.
Favorite chain/fast food burger, this category is hard for me. Because, I have three chains in mind and I like them all for different reasons. Instead of picking one I’ll give a brief run down of all three.
In N Out Burger – If you’ve ever spent anytime in California you’ll know that this burger is the holy grail of hamburgers to people who live here and even for people who don’t live here. My mom is an absolute In N Out devotee, and she lives 800 miles away. I like this burger because it reminds me of the hamburgers my grandmother makes at home. Perfectly toasted buns, thin patty that is crispy on the edges but juicy in the center. It’s not fancy but to me it’s the classic example of what a good hamburger should be. I take my In N Out Burger Animal Style which comes with extra spread, pickles and grilled onions. This is the perfect place to stop for burger on a road trip through California.
Five Guys – When I want a big greasy, messy had a bad day want to eat my feelings burger, I go to Five Guys. There is nothing small about their “small” burger which I usually get. The regular burger is two full size patties so don’t feel wimpy ordering a “small” burger trust me you’ll have plenty to eat. The same thing holds with their small order of fries. One small order is more than enough for two people. I am talking two hungry people who love fries. Their french fries are the other reason I love this place, fresh cut to order and piping hot out of the friar they are amazing. The perfect complement to their burgers.
The Habit – I would say The Habit is my go to fast food burger, they are char-grilled so they have that great smoky flavor. Every time I bite into one I am reminded of summer cookouts and pool parties. Besides the great burgers they have really great onion rings. They have their onion ring game on point, or as the kids say on fleek! Always perfectly crispy with the right onion to batter ratio. Give me a Habit cheeseburger, onion rings and a chocolate malt and I am a very happy woman.
So celebrate Hamburger Day by enjoying your favorite burger!
