It’s Thursday! It’s time for Throwback Thursday Cocktail! I know, I know, the Throwback Thursday cocktail is typically a YouTube video post. Sadly this week my cameraman had a scheduling conflict and wasn’t available to record my video. I promise there will be more Throwback Thursday cocktail videos in the future. I didn’t want you to go into the weekend without a cocktail. So, I am blogging this weeks drink.
Now on with the show…
This weeks cocktail is a really fun very popular drink. It’s also “The Dude’s” beverage of choice in the cult movie classic The Big Lebowski. It’s great drink for people who don’t really enjoy the taste of alcohol. Because of its smooth, creamy and mildly sweet in flavor.
This week’s drink is:
The White Russian

The White Russian is variation of the original cocktail the Black Russian that became popular in the 1940s. A Black Russian is simply vodka mixed with coffee liqueur over ice. When you add cream to this mixture you have a White Russian and that term was coined in the 1960s.
Funny enough the Russian in the name White Russian has nothing to do with where the drink originated. Russian is only in reference to the key ingredient of vodka in this cocktail.
If you’ve never had a White Russian I highly recommend you try it at least once. I would describe it as grown up chocolate milk or a latte with a kick. They are super simple to make and only require three easy to find ingredients. While your’e at it I suggest sipping this cocktail while watching The Big Lebowski. I rarely pair drinks with movies but if you are going to watch The Big Lebowski you must drink a white russian.
Here’s what you’ll need:
1 1/2 ounce Vodka
3/4 of an ounce Coffee Liqueur
3/4 of an ounce of heavy cream (you can also substitute milk for the cream)
1. Pour the vodka and coffee liqueur over ice in a low ball glass stir.
2. Then gently top with cream
There you have it one white russian! Enjoy!
P.S. remember the Dude abides
Cheers!!
