Glitter Pumpkin 2.0
I cannot believe Halloween is next week?! Wasn’t Labor Day just last week? Anyway, Halloween is the kick off of the Holiday season. We are off to the races folks, the next couple of months is going to be a flurry, of celebrations, family gatherings, cooking, shopping, crafting and all the activities that this time of year brings. Halloween is the starting line of the holiday race.
You can’t get in the Halloween spirit without pumpkins! Last year I took a new twist on the traditional jack-0-lantern and started glittering pumpkins. I loved the result so much that I decided that I would do it again this year. As much as I like the look of a solid glittered pumpkin, I wanted to do something new.
This year the Chevron stripped pattern is a big trend in fabrics and design. So, I wanted to incorporate that trend into my pumpkin decoration this year. Last year was all about the Glam, this year would be all about glam with touch of chic. That’s how the Chevron Glitter Pumpkin idea was born.
I started out with my standard supplies which this year included the addition of painter’s tape, necessary for achieving the desired chevron stripes.
Next I taped off the chevron stripes on to the pumpkins
Then I used a paintbrush and painted the glue all over the pumpkin followed by sprinkling on the glitter. I allowed the pumpkins to dry for about 20 minutes. Then I carefully removed the tape (the photos of these steps were blurry possibly because my fingers were covered in glitter).
After the tape is peeled away from the pumpkin, viola! The chevron glitter pumpkin is finished!
I was really happy at how sharp the strips turned out. I love the contrast of the natural pumpkin color against the glitter. I will admit this method of glittering pumpkins does take a little more time than just putting glitter all over the pumpkin. But, I think the extra effort is worth the result.
If you are tired of carving pumpkins or want to add a little sparkle to your Halloween I highly recommend trying the glitter pumpkin method.
